I provide an overview of the behavioural and clinical management of patients with a learning disability in General Dental Practice

By the end of the day delegates should have a better understanding of:
• Common causes of learning disability
• The effect of learning disability on daily life on patients and their carers
• The effect of learning disability on oral health
• How to manage these patients in GDP, regarding behavioural management,
prevention, and further treatment planning and providing treatment.
• What is appropriate to be treated in GDP regarding these types of patient
• Referring these patients appropriately
•Have a more detailed knowledge of the current evidence regarding management, prevention, early intervention and treatment of patients with a learning disability.
•Revisit the details of consent
•Recognise the specifics of capacity
•Understanding of the management of the consent process when a patient lacks capacity
•Have knowledge on when it is appropriate to refer these patients.
